My hiking trip got rained out so I ended up at a local rock shop in Tucson
I was supposed to hike Sabino Canyon last Saturday but the forecast showed 90% rain by 8am. Bummed out, I drove to this random rock and mineral shop on Grant Road called The Gem Shop. The owner let me use his UV light on some of his rocks and I saw this plain looking piece of calcite GLOW bright orange. Now I kinda want to collect fluorescent rocks. Anybody else find a cool hobby after your outdoor plans got canceled?

Whoa, I gotta admit I used to think rock collecting was just for like 80 year old retirees with nothing better to do. But that UV light thing sounds actually pretty wild. I never knew plain looking rocks could just light up like that. Now I'm kinda curious what other stuff around here glows under UV, maybe even some of the rocks in my own backyard. You might've just turned me onto something I never would've given a second look. That's a solid silver lining for a rained out hike, for sure.

Bet you got glow-in-the-dark fungus or scorpions too if you're lucky.

Ha, yeah I saw a video where this guy found fungus glowing under UV in the woods... looked like something from another planet. Makes you wonder what's hiding in plain sight.
