My uncle in Toledo said nobody plans for the day the power goes out, and now I think about it every time a plan gets scrapped
Last week my uncle in Toledo told me about the ice storm in 2019 when his whole block lost power for 3 days and everyone just sat around waiting for it to come back instead of doing anything. He said the folks who had a deck of cards and a battery radio had a way better time than the ones who kept checking the clock, and that sank in for me because I usually treat a canceled plan like a loss instead of a free afternoon. So what's the one thing you keep on hand (cards, a book, an old radio) that turns a dead evening into an okay one?
