Overheard my neighbor say canceled plans are a secret gift

I was walking my dog last Tuesday and heard this guy on his porch telling someone on the phone that every time his plans fall through, he finds something better. He mentioned he had to skip a concert two months ago and ended up fixing his old bicycle instead. It got me thinking about how I always get bummed when something gets canceled, but last weekend my hike got rained out and I spent the afternoon reorganizing my garage. Found an old photo album I hadn't seen in like 8 years and actually called my cousin to laugh about the pictures. Has anyone else had a canceled plan turn into something unexpectedly good?
