The subway delay that turned into a park bench picnic in Queens

My Friday night plans to meet friends in Manhattan got axed when the F train stalled for 40 minutes at Roosevelt Avenue. Instead of just heading home, I walked to Flushing Meadows and found this weird spot by the unisphere. I bought a $3 empanada from a cart and just sat there watching the sunset. It hit me that I hadn't just stopped and looked at that place in like 10 years, even though I pass it twice a week. The difference between rushing through and actually sitting there was huge, same spot, totally different experience. Has anyone else had a transit screw-up that turned into something better than the original plan?
