Wasn't sure about this whole meetup app thing, but then my plans got nuked last Thursday

I had a group camping trip to Big Sur planned for months with some old friends, and then three of them backed out the day before because of work stuff and a family emergency. Ended up just going solo anyway, and this random guy at the campsite invited me over to his fire because he saw me struggling with my tent for like 20 minutes, and we talked about fishing spots until midnight. Has anyone else had a canceled plan turn into something better just because you're forced to go alone and meet someone new?

The pine needle trick is a game changer, right? I swear the best survival hacks always come from someone who's been stuck in the woods way too long. That's the thing about going solo too, you're way more likely to just walk up to a stranger and ask for help because you don't have your own group to fall back on. It's like the universe knows you need a little nudge to actually talk to people instead of just sticking with who you came with.

Did you at least offer the guy a sip of his own beer back?

The guy with the fire probably saved you from freezing your ass off and getting zero fishing tips. Last time I went solo camping I spent 45 minutes trying to start a fire with wet wood and a single lighter. Some random hiker came over, handed me a beer, and showed me how to use pine needles as tinder. Ended up swapping stories about the worst hikes we'd ever done until 2am. Canceled plans are just the universe forcing you to have better ones, I guess.
