But what if the damper is just the most obvious place to start? It's an easy check that rules out a simple fix before you waste time on harder stuff. Sometimes the obvious answer is the right one.

The problem with starting at the obvious spot is you might miss the root cause. A stuck damper could just be a symptom of a bigger airflow issue deeper in the system. Fixing the damper first could give you a false sense of fixing it, only for the problem to come back later. You end up doing the job twice when looking at the whole picture might save more time.
