Had a nest of starlings come down the flue on a job in Salem and I panicked for a second
Honestly I was up on a two story colonial off Chestnut Street doing a routine sweep when the brush hit something soft about halfway down. Pulled it back and a bird came with it, then two more, all flapping around the hearth and soot everywhere. I grabbed my drop cloth, threw it over the opening and got the shop vac hose on them one at a time, then checked the cap and found a rusted out corner where they got in. Took me an extra 40 minutes and a $40 mesh cap from the truck but the homeowner was cool about it. Anyone else keep a spare cap on the van for stuff like this or do you just write it up and come back?
Wow, birds in the flue is my nightmare on a sweep. How did you get the shop vac hose to grab them without hurting the birds or tearing up the liner? Curious because I'd probably just panic and make it worse.
