I logged 417 cleanings before I finally admitted the 6 inch brush is overrated
I hit 417 logged cleanings on my clipboard sheet in March and did the math on which brush I actually grabbed most. Everyone in my local group swears by the 6 inch round for 8x8 flues, but my notes showed I reached for the 8x8 square on 6 out of 10 jobs because it scrubs the corners where the creosote really cakes up. My old mentor in Toledo drilled the 6 inch into my head back in 2011 and I never questioned it until those numbers stared back at me. Curious if anyone else has kept a tally and gotten surprised by what their own numbers showed?
417 cleanings is a lot to track, but did you ever split the sheet by who trained the sweep? I bet the guys who learned in the 90s grabbed the 6 inch way more than the newer folks, so the brush choice may say more about the mentor than the flue.
