Question about a 1970s chimney I opened in Butte last Tuesday
Last Tuesday I pulled the cap off a chimney on a house built in 1974 near Butte, Montana, and found the flue lined with some kind of hard black glaze. I hit it with the standard poly brush and it just polished the stuff instead of removing it, so I ran a rotary loop for 20 minutes and barely made a dent. My old boss used to say glaze like that means the stove ran too cool for too long, but I never dealt with it much. Has anyone here found a mix or method that actually cuts that shiny glaze without wrecking the tile?
