Rant: Old timer told me to soak my chimney brush in vinegar overnight
Guy at the supply shop swore it would loosen all the crusty creosote buildup... I tried it on my 8-inch brush and woke up to rust spots all over the bristles. Anyone else get burned by a cleaning hack that sounded too good to be true?

That rust must have been brutal to wake up to.

Gotta wonder if that rust was actually doing some heavy lifting structurally for the whole pipes system. Sometimes that layer of oxidation is the only thing holding old plumbing together, and the second you mess with it everything just crumbles. Almost like that rust was the real friend keeping the water in the pipes instead of all over the floor. Be careful what you wish for when you clean something up perfectly lol.

Honestly, I don't see it that way at all. That kind of rust is part of the charm for me, not some shock in the morning. If you're living in a place with character, you kind of sign up for a little bit of wear and tear. It's not brutal, it's just real. People get too hung up on everything being perfect and new. Give me a rusty sink with a story over a sterile white counter any day.
