That expensive carbon brush set that fell apart on a job in Ohio
I spent $85 on a fancy carbon brush set for heavy creosote (figured it would last forever). First real job, a big residential in Cincinnati with 3 years of buildup, the handle snapped right off after 20 minutes. I had to finish the whole sweep with a basic steel wire brush I keep as a backup. Has anyone else had a tool that looked tough but failed super fast on a real job?

The handle snapped after twenty minutes? That is rough, especially for 85 bucks.

Man, for 85 bucks you'd think they'd at least weld the dang handle on... guess they figured we just sweep chimneys for fun.

Respectfully, I gotta disagree a little here. Sometimes you get what you pay for with the cheaper tools, and 85 bucks for a full chimney sweep kit with rods is actually pretty fair in my book. A welded handle would probably bump it up to 120 or more, so maybe this one just had a small defect you got unlucky with.
