TIL a old timer told me I was overcleaning my brushes
Was chatting with a guy who's been sweeping chimneys since the 70s at the supply shop Tuesday. He watched me scrub my brush set for 10 minutes and just laughed. Said I was washing off the seasoning that actually helps the bristles grip soot better. Now I just knock em out and oil the ferrule once a month instead. Anyone else been told they're too hard on their gear?

Right? I used to scrub my brushes like I was prepping for surgery. Probably took years off their life. My gear must think I'm the overbearing parent of the toolbox.

Yeah, I used to be the opposite actually @roberts95. I was that person who just rinsed their brushes under hot water and called it good. Then I noticed my nice kolinsky sable brush starting to split after like three paintings. Turns out dried acrylic in the ferrule is basically a death sentence. So now I'm a full convert, I soak them in brush cleaner and everything. Better late than never I guess.
