TIL about cleaning a chimney with a shop vac and a dryer hose
My neighbor Pat showed me his setup last spring - he uses a shop vac with a dryer hose taped to the intake to suck soot from the top while he brushes from below. Has anyone else tried this method or stuck with the traditional bags?

Did you tape the hose to the brush rod too or just the vac end? I tried something similar but the hose kept popping off the shop vac every time I moved the brush. Ended up just going back to the bags.

Duct tape is the only way. Slap it on both ends and pray.

Feel you on the hose popping off, that happened to me twice before I gave up and just used zip ties on both ends. I had my wife hold the vac steady while I worked the brush from below but the whole setup still felt janky. Honestly I've never gone back to bags after trying this though, just takes some tinkering to get right.
