Was sure a spinning brush was a gimmick, now I use it on every job

I spent 14 years doing flues with just rods and hand brushes. Last spring a guy I sub for kept pushing this rotary attachment that clips onto your drill. I figured it would just fling soot everywhere and wreck the motor. Finally tried it on a nasty creosote buildup off Route 9 in Ashland. Took maybe 20 minutes versus the usual hour, and the chimney looked cleaner than I ever got it with a manual scrape. The catch is you still have to do the smoke shelf by hand, no way around that. Anyone else find these things only work on straight runs, or is it just my old elbows that make the angled sections a pain? I'm curious if it's worth buying a nicer brand or if the cheap one I borrowed did the trick by luck.

Did you notice any difference on the angled parts, or was it just the straight runs that felt faster?
