Wasted $60 on those magnetic sweep covers
Bought a set of magnetic sweep covers thinking they'd save time on quick inspections. First job with a real creosote buildup and they slipped off, fell into the fireplace and cracked. Went back to my old manual covers and got the job done in half the time. Anyone else get burned by a gadget that looked good on paper?

Maybe it's just me but those magnetic ones seem like they'd work way better on a smooth metal flue instead of a rough brick fireplace. The grip probably isn't strong enough on anything porous.

And here I was thinking I could skip the whole "checking if it sticks" step. Guess my magnetic charm doesn't work on flues either.
