A lady at a yard sale in Tulsa sold me a $3 wool blanket and it beat my $60 one
So last Saturday I stopped at this yard sale down the street from my sister's place in Tulsa, mostly looking for old tools, and this older lady had a stack of blankets on a card table marked a dollar each. I grabbed a heavy grey wool one for $3 because it looked handmade and felt thick, and she told me her mom made it back in the 70s for cold nights on a farm. I almost left it in the truck, but that night I threw it on the couch and it was honestly warmer than the $60 fleece throw I got at a big box store two winters ago. The wool doesn't slide off the cushions either, which drives me nuts with the slick ones, and it somehow stays cool in the afternoon and warm at night. I've used it every evening for a week now, even dragged it out to the porch once. The cheap store blanket is in the closet and I don't miss it. Has anyone else had a thrift or yard sale blanket just destroy their fancy one?
Got lucky is all. For every handmade wool blanket like that there are ten yard sale blankets that smell like a wet dog and shed all over your couch (and wool makes me itch like crazy anyway). Give it a couple washes and see if it still holds up before you write off the $60 one.
