My mom's feather pillow advice finally clicked after 2 neck cramps

My mom kept telling me to fluff my feather pillow before bed every night, but I thought it was her being extra. After waking up with a stiff neck twice in one month last fall, I finally tried it for a real 7 days straight. Turns out the feathers settle into hard lumps overnight, and a quick 30 second fluff redistributes them so my head actually sinks in evenly. I also started stacking a thin cotton blanket under the pillowcase for extra lift, which she never mentioned but works great. Has anyone else found that their parents' boring pillow advice was actually right once you gave it a real shot?

Honestly, the blanket under the pillowcase part is the real pro move. I did the exact same thing after my grandma's nagging got too loud, and the 30 second fluff thing works, but the extra lift is what fixed my neck for good. I use a folded t-shirt instead of a blanket because it stays put better. The hard lumps thing is so real too, I used to just punch the pillow and think that counted. Took me way longer than 7 days to admit she was right though.

Dang, @faithcampbell that folded t-shirt trick is genius, actually. I’ve been using a rolled up hand towel and it slides around like crazy, so I’m definitely stealing that idea. The neck relief is no joke though, I woke up this morning with zero stiffness for the first time in weeks. And yeah, the punching thing, I did that for years and just made the lumps worse, ha. Grandma’s always right, but admitting it takes like a decade of sore mornings, you know?
