My sister called my blanket fort habit "sad" and now I'm second-guessing everything

So I was over at my sister's place last Tuesday and she saw me building a little nest with her throw pillows and an old quilt. She laughed and said I was basically making a "cozy coffin" for adults. Honestly it hit different because she's usually the one who gets my quirks but she made it sound like I'm hiding from something. Does anyone else's family just not understand the art of a good blanket setup or am I actually being weird about this?

Hold up, is calling someone's cozy space a "cozy coffin" supposed to be some kind of insight? Sounds like your sister was just trying to be clever and punch down a bit. I don't think making a blanket fort is hiding from something, it's just making a safe little spot for yourself. Most adults I know have a favorite corner or couch they curl up in, you're just taking it to the next level with some pillows. Maybe she's just jealous she doesn't have a good setup of her own. Why does everything have to be so serious, can't we just enjoy a blanket pile without it being a whole thing?

Oh man, you're totally right. People love to overanalyze a simple blanket fort like it's some deep psychological statement. Sometimes a pile of pillows is just a pile of pillows, you know? It's like the sister has never felt the pure joy of building a little nest and watching Netflix in peace. Maybe she's just bitter because her preferred cozy spot is a cold, hard chair at a desk. Let people enjoy their fabric cocoons without turning it into a therapy session.
