TIL I'm the odd one out who hates fleece blankets

Everyone in my family raves about those super soft fleece throws... but I finally swapped mine out for a heavy cotton quilt last month and I'm never going back. Fleece just traps heat in a weird way that makes me sweat after 20 minutes of napping. I picked up a vintage-style cotton quilt at a thrift store for $12 and it breathes so much better. Now I actually fall asleep on the couch instead of tossing around. Anyone else prefer old school materials over the popular fuzzy stuff?

The static electricity thing is a real hidden downside nobody talks about with fleece. Every time I'd use one in the winter, I'd get zapped petting my dog or touching a doorknob. The cotton quilt you mentioned probably doesn't build up that charge at all since it's natural fibers. Plus fleece tends to hold onto pet hair like nobody's business, while my cotton blankets just shake it off easy. My mom still swears by her polyester fleece but she's always complaining about her hair standing up after sitting on the couch.

Man I gotta hand it to you @joel_martinez, you totally changed my mind on this. I was all about fleece for years, thought it was the best thing for winter. But now that you mention it, my dog does get that shocked look when I pet him after sitting under my fleece blanket. Never connected the dots. And the pet hair thing is spot on too, my cotton throw just needs a quick shake but the fleece one looks like a fur factory exploded on it.

Wait @joel_martinez does your mom not care about the static or does she just put up with it @king.robin?
