Why I think microfiber blankets are overrated for cold weather

Last Thursday during that snowstorm in Chicago, I grabbed my fluffy microfiber blanket hoping to stay warm and ended up shivering after an hour, while my old cotton quilt kept me toasty all night - has anyone else found microfiber just traps moisture instead of heat?

Yeah, I was totally one of those people who bought into the microfiber hype. I thought they were the best thing ever because they're so soft and cheap. But after reading your post and Sarah's story, it makes sense. I had a similar experience last winter where I woke up feeling clammy under mine, and I just blamed it on the humidity. Now I'm realizing it was the blanket all along. Guess I'll be sticking with my cotton quilt too.

That "traps moisture instead of heat" part is exactly what my neighbor Sarah found out the hard way. She bought a whole set of those fluffy microfiber blankets for her lake cabin, thinking they'd be cozy for winter weekends. First night there, she woke up freezing and damp, like she'd been sleeping in a wet towel. She ended up dragging her old Polyester sleeping bag out of the car just to get through the night. Now she keeps one folded at the foot of her bed for looks but swears by her old wool blanket for actual warmth.
