Spent 2 years writing overly technical blog posts before someone finally told me

I was churning out these dense 2000 word posts about MITRE ATT&CK mappings and SIEM log analysis. Then a CISO at a conference in Austin flat out told me my content was unreadable for anyone who wasn't already an expert. That's when I realized I was marketing to security engineers, not the business buyers who actually sign the checks. Anyone else had to completely rethink their tone after getting called out like that?

That CISO was doing you a REAL favor.

Had a buddy who was a sysadmin at a small company years ago. He thought he was being slick by running a personal bitcoin miner on their servers after hours, figured nobody would notice since the electricity was already paid for. Got caught when the CFO saw the power bill spike and traced it back to his machine. His company terminated him on the spot, no severance, no references. The CISO at his next job flat out told him that first firing was the best thing that could have happened to a guy who hadn't learned his lesson about boundaries yet.
