Spent $800 on a security audit and it found exactly what I feared

I run a small cybersecurity marketing agency and we finally bit the bullet on a full audit for our own site last month. The consultant caught a misconfigured form that was leaking client emails to a third-party analytics tool, and I had no idea it was even happening for like 6 months. The $800 felt painful upfront, but it saved us from what could've been a real GDPR disaster with our EU clients. Has anyone else paid for an external audit and found something you totally missed on your own?

Did the audit give you a detailed breakdown of how that leak was happening under the hood, or just the surface issue? I get that feeling of being blindsided though, we had a similar thing where our own team swore up and down everything was clean, but the outsider saw stuff we were too close to notice. That $800 probably feels like the best money you ever spent now, because GDPR fines would've been way worse than a few hundred bucks. It's funny how you can stare at your own site every day and still completely miss a slow leak like that, it kind of makes you question what else is hiding in plain sight.
