Talked to a CISO at a bar in Austin last week. Made me rethink my marketing completely.
Guy was a CISO for a mid sized bank. I was pitching our new threat intel platform. He stopped me mid sentence. Said he gets 50 vendor emails a day and deletes all of them. Said the only thing he reads is peer recommendations from his private Slack groups. Hit me hard. Like all our fancy whitepapers and SEO playbooks are just noise to him. I realized we are marketing to the wrong audience. We should be targeting those Slack group influencers instead. Has anyone else shifted their strategy toward private communities?

So he's basically telling you your whole funnel is broken?

yeah that's pretty much what he said, just with more marketing jargon thrown in to make it sound fancy. like oh your emails aren't converting? well actually your entire customer journey is a hot mess, here's a $10k proposal to fix it. i swear these guys love finding the biggest problem possible just so they can sell you the biggest solution possible. it's like going to the doctor with a paper cut and walking out with a full body MRI scheduled.

Yeah exactly, it's like when your car is making a weird noise and the mechanic says "your whole engine is shot." Like man, I just wanted to know if I needed an oil change, not a full rebuild. But honestly, that's how things usually go, once one thing's off it messes up everything else down the line. Ever had that happen with something totally random, like a bad morning that ruins your whole week?
