Walked into a cybersecurity conference last week and the check-in had me handing over my email for a RFID badge

I get it's supposed to be secure but they literally scanned my badge and asked for my full name and company out loud in line where anyone could hear. Has anyone else run into marketing setups that completely ignore basic privacy?

Last conference I hit, I started giving just my first name and a vague company like "tech consulting." They scribbled it on the sticker without a second glance and moved me along. If they pushed for more, I'd just shrug and say I forgot the rest, which usually worked fine.

Maybe it's just me but the loud name thing is actually a way to check for social engineering on the spot.

Right because nothing screams "I'm a real human not a robot" like yelling someone's full government name across a crowded lobby. I can just picture calling out "JENNIFER MARY SMITH" and watching six heads whip around in confusion like some bizarre human bingo game. If I ever get that wrong I'm just going to pretend I was testing their reflexes. "Sorry Susan, you failed the vibe check now you have to start over from the beginning.
