Why does nobody talk about the pressure to use fear-based ads in our field?
Last month, my boss in Chicago pushed hard for a campaign showing a 'hacker countdown clock' on a breached network. I argued it feels scummy and pushes people away. He said fear sells and showed me data from a 3-year-old case study. Now we're at a standstill. Has anyone else had to fight this battle with leadership?

Ugh, my friend's old boss made them put giant "YOU'RE BEING WATCHED" banners on a site. It totally backfired and people just got angry.

Ever notice how that kind of threat just makes people want to do the opposite? Like those "NO TRESPASSING" signs that make a vacant lot look way more interesting, or a "DON'T TOUCH" note on something. It just points a big finger at the thing you're not supposed to do. Makes you wonder who thinks that approach actually works.

Seriously, my last apartment had cameras with signs everywhere and it just felt like a prison.
