A cashier's question about my reusable bags made me rethink the whole routine

I was at the grocery store in Tacoma last Tuesday and the cashier asked why I still bag my own stuff when they offer plastic for free. She said most people just grab the plastic now and don't think about it. I mean, I've been using the same four cloth bags for like 5 years, but her point hit different because she wasn't being rude, just curious. It made me wonder if I only do it out of habit or if the convenience thing is actually winning. Has anyone else had a random store worker make them question their own small rituals?
