Had to wait behind a woman at the grocery store who was sorting coupons for 15 minutes right at the register
This was last Tuesday at the Kroger on Main Street. I just had a gallon of milk and some bread. She had a full cart and a binder of coupons. The cashier just stood there while she flipped through pages. I wanted to say something but my wife told me to be patient. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of thing at checkout?

Did the cashier actually scan anything while she was flipping through the binder? Because at my store they're supposed to be scanning stuff as you hand it over, not just standing there watching. I feel like that part is on the cashier too, they could have at least started ringing up her stuff so you weren't just staring at the back of her head. People with big coupon binders drive me crazy though, they always act like they're planning a military operation at the register. My rule is if you've got more than 10 coupons, you gotta do them at the self checkout so the rest of us don't have to wait.

Fifteen whole minutes? That's insane. Did the cashier not say anything to her at all? Grocery store employees usually have a timer or something for checkout speeds, right? I wonder if you could have flagged down a manager to open a second register. Seems like common decency to let people with small orders skip ahead.

Ehh I get where you're coming from but I dunno if it's that simple. Some people just move slow through the store, that's their business. The cashier probably noticed but what are they gonna do, rush her? They'd get complaints for that too. Plus a lot of stores don't even have timers on registers anymore, not the ones near me anyway. And asking for a manager to open a new lane over one slow customer? That's a whole other headache, they'd have to call someone from the back or interrupt whatever they're doing. It's annoying for sure but sometimes you just gotta wait your turn.
