I used to crank the AC with the windows down, now I just ride it out for 5 minutes
Look, I know this is small, but it's been driving me nuts lately. I used to be the person who would blast the air conditioning in my car every single time I got in, even in July, even if I was just going 2 blocks to the gas station. I did it for years. Then last month I borrowed my brother's old Civic and the AC compressor was shot. No cold air at all. I had to sit there and sweat through my shirt on the way to his place in Phoenix.
So now I'm trying to just roll the windows down and deal with the heat for the first 5 minutes of any short drive. It's way better than the blast of hot air or the sound of a struggling compressor. But my girlfriend still hits the AC button the second she sits down, and it drives me up a wall. We took a 6 minute trip to the pharmacy yesterday and she had it on full blast the whole time. Am I the only one who thinks that's a waste? Or is 90 degree heat just too much for other people too?

Gotta say, I used to be the exact same way. I'd crank the AC the moment I turned the key, even for a three minute drive to the grocery store. But then my compressor went out too, and I had to suffer through a whole summer of nothing but hot air blowing in my face. That changed my whole view. Now I just roll down the windows and tough it out for a bit, and honestly, the breeze feels way better than that stale recycled air. It's not about being tough, it's just that the AC takes a solid minute to actually get cold anyway, so why waste the gas and the noise? Your girlfriend probably doesn't see it as a waste, she just sees it as comfort, and that's fine, but I'm with you on this one.
