Just realized my own footsteps are the loudest thing in my apartment

I moved into a second floor place in Nashville last month and kept hearing this thumping above me, figured the upstairs neighbor had heavy boots or something. Turns out I'm the top floor, there's no one up there, and I finally noticed the noise only happens when I wear my work sneakers on the hardwood. Walked around in socks for a day and it was dead quiet, so I've been mentally apologizing to every downstairs neighbor I've ever had. Has anyone else discovered their own annoying habit was the culprit this way?
