My coworker kept saying 'I told you so' about the printer jam

So yesterday I was trying to print 50 copies for a meeting at the office, and the printer jammed three times in a row. My coworker Linda leaned over and goes, 'I told you not to use the cheap paper' in that smug voice. She just stood there watching me struggle for 15 minutes instead of helping. Has anyone else dealt with someone who only points out mistakes but won't lend a hand?

Heard this exact thing from my friend Jenna at her last job. She had this coworker Marcus who would watch her mess up the postage meter every single morning instead of just showing her the one button she kept missing. One day Jenna just stopped, stepped aside, and said "you obviously know how to fix this better than me, go ahead." Marcus stood there with his coffee all awkward for like ten seconds before he actually walked over and did it. Best part was he never hung around to watch her struggle again after that.

My old boss used to pull that exact move with the coffee machine, would stand there and say "see, I told you the filter goes in upside down" while I'm covered in grounds. Finally just started handing him the basket and saying "great, you got it then" and walking away.

Holding her back would just be enabling her to keep being useless. Linda didn't help because she wanted you to feel the sting of being wrong. People like that get off on being right more than they care about anyone else. If she actually wanted the jam fixed she would have grabbed a paper clip and shown you how to clear it in 30 seconds. Next time just nod at her, say "yep you were right," and go grab the good paper yourself. That takes away all her power.
