The escalator standers at Union Station drive me bonkers

I was at Union Station in Chicago last Thursday and had to catch the 4:15 train. There's this one escalator where everyone just stands on the left side like they forgot the rules exist. I tried to squeeze past with my backpack and almost took out a tourist with a selfie stick. Has anyone else noticed this getting worse at busy stations?

Last week I was at Union too, actually the Thursday before yours I think, and I swear there was a guy just parked on the left side of the escalator with his suitcase blocking both sides while he was looking at his phone. I had to say "excuse me" three times before he even looked up, and when he did he just gave me this confused stare like I was the weird one for trying to walk. It makes me wonder if people just don't get the whole stand right walk left thing anymore, or if they just don't care. Back in 2018 when I first started taking the train from Ogilvie, people were way better about it, like there was some unspoken code everyone followed. Now it's like every escalator is a free for all and you have to plan your route through the station like you're navigating a obstacle course.

Three times" you had to say excuse me? That's just unbelievable to me. I can't imagine someone being that oblivious, especially at Union where it's always packed. And the confused stare while you're just trying to get past? That would've sent me over the edge honestly. I've seen people park with luggage before but blocking both sides while glued to a phone feels like a new level of not caring. It's bad enough when people stand on the left, but to not even notice someone right there asking to get by is something else.
