Unpopular take: people who walk their dogs off leash in the city are the worst

I know everyone thinks their dog is super well behaved but I had a golden retriever charge at my leashed dog near the 7th Street bridge last Tuesday and the owner just yelled "he's friendly!" like that makes it okay... Getting a dog in your face when you have no control is scary even if the pup is nice. It's basic manners to keep them leashed in public spaces so why do so many people ignore that rule?

I read a study last month that said 80% of off-leash dog owners admit their dog ignores them sometimes. That owner on the bridge was probably in that 80%.

My neighbor has a golden retriever that practically trained her instead of the other way around. She brings him to the park off leash and he'll just wander over to other people's picnics like he owns the place. @joel_hall17 that study sounds about right, I watched her yell his name for five minutes straight while he was busy stealing someone's sandwich. The dog only came back because he heard a squirrel rustling in a tree nearby.

My friend's lab once ran off with someone's phone and wouldn't drop it for ten minutes.
