Can we talk about airlocks vs. burping jars for hot sauce?
I chose to burp my jars for a month instead of using airlocks, and it ended in a huge, spicy mess on my kitchen ceiling. Anyone have a better method that doesn't require special gear?

Ever tried to burp a jar that's basically a spicy bomb? I learned the hard way that airlocks are just cheap insurance against redecorating. My ceiling still has a faint chili stain to prove it.

Wait, you got hot sauce on the ceiling? That's a whole new level of fermentation disaster. I'm just picturing opening a jar and it basically turning into a pepper volcano. Burping is fine for the first few days, but after that, the pressure builds way too fast. Airlocks are like two bucks at a brew shop, totally worth not having to clean chili off your light fixtures.

Oh man, this reminds me of my buddy's kitchen catastrophe. He was fermenting some super hot peppers in a sealed jar for a week, forgot about it, and then just twisted the lid. It exploded like a grenade. We spent hours wiping red splatter off his cabinets and the top of the fridge. He said it smelled like regret and habaneros for a month. How do you even forget about a jar full of bubbling peppers?
