My kimchi explosion convinced me to use airlocks
I always skipped them thinking they were extra hassle. After cleaning cabbage off my ceiling, I'm never skipping them again.

After your cabbage ceiling disaster, I STILL think airlocks are unnecessary extra stuff. Just loosen the lid for a second each day to let gas out. That method has worked for my ferments for years without any mess. It's way simpler than setting up another piece of equipment you have to clean.

Look, that daily burping trick might work but it's easy to forget. An airlock lets gas escape on its own so there's no mold risk from missed days. For me, the setup is worth it for steady results and less worry.
