My kraut volcano erupted all over the kitchen counter at 2 AM
I was in my apartment in Denver, trying a new red cabbage and caraway recipe. I didn't leave enough headspace in the jar, and the pressure built up overnight. I woke up to a purple geyser and brine dripping onto the floor. It took me an hour to clean the sticky mess off everything. Anyone have a good rule for how much space to leave in a quart jar?

Sounds like a minor kitchen disaster, not Pompeii. Just leave an inch of space next time.

You ever had soup explode in a microwave? It's basically a tiny food volcano, so the Pompeii comparison tracks. My ceiling still has bean stains from last time.
