Picked a plastic crock over glass for my first sauerkraut batch

I had to choose between a 5-liter Harsch crock and a big mason jar setup for fermenting cabbage, and I went with the plastic because I was scared of breakage. Three weeks in, the kraut came out great but I noticed a faint plastic smell that made me question my choice. Has anyone else dealt with weird odors from plastic fermenters, or am I just being paranoid?

Didn't plastic seem like a bad idea to you before you tried it?

Could the plastic be leaching from the crock itself and not just soap?

Maybe the plastic absorbed soap residue that the glass never would have held onto.
