Everyone keeps saying green sand is dead but I just finished a 47 piece run with it yesterday
I run a small shop outside Pittsburgh and people keep telling me to switch to air set or resin for everything. But I just poured 47 valve bodies in green sand yesterday and only had 2 rejects from gas porosity. That is a 95% success rate which is better than some guys I know getting with shell molds. My question is who else is still getting good numbers with traditional green sand on complex parts?

Slow down your closers and check your mold hardness.

30 Shore is probably fine for most molds, is it really that deep?

Learned this one the HARD way too, @the_xena is dead on about slowing down closers.
