My foreman insisted on a 10-minute pre-heat for the new core shooter, and I thought it was just busywork.

After a year of zero blowback defects on the 356 aluminum castings, I have to admit he was right. Anyone else have a simple step that turned out to be a game-changer?

Honestly seems like a waste of time to me. Maybe your alloy mix was just really consistent that whole year. Could have gotten lucky. I've seen shops skip that step for ages with no real problems, so it's hard to say that one thing fixed it for sure.
