Our main ladle crane's cable snapped during a pour yesterday afternoon.
Had to emergency shut down the line for 3 hours. Anyone got a good supplier for 5/8 inch galvanized wire rope in the Cleveland area?

Man, that cable snap is a legit nightmare scenario. Beyond just finding a new rope, you should really push management for a full rigging inspection on that crane. Those cables don't just fail for no reason, and a snapped load line often points to a bigger maintenance gap. Grainger can get you a rope fast, but fixing the root cause is what keeps the line running next week.

Wow, that's a really good point from @amy974. I used to just focus on getting the broken part replaced fast, you know, to get things moving again. But you're totally right that skipping a bigger check is just asking for more trouble later. A snapped cable isn't a random thing, it's a major warning sign. Pushing for that full inspection now could stop a way worse shutdown next time. It's smarter to fix the real problem, not just the symptom.

Ugh, this is everywhere. Like when your car makes a weird noise and you just turn up the radio instead of getting it checked. Or you ignore a small leak under the sink until the whole cabinet is ruined. Honestly, we're all so trained to just patch things up quick to avoid the hassle. But that almost always costs more time and money later. It's such a short-term way to live.
