TIL that letting my furnace ramp up slower avoids hot spots

Used to crank the heat fast to save minutes. Melt would have uneven sections. Started a slower warm-up routine last month. Now the pour is consistent every time. Fewer scrapped casts.

Nah, you’re right. My buddy Dave wrecked two entire batches last year before he figured this out. He’s the type who has to do everything fast, like it’s a race. He kept getting these weird hard spots in the middle and weak edges. Finally, I told him to just give it ten more minutes on the ramp. Now he hasn’t had a bad pour in months. He still complains it takes too long but he’s not wasting metal anymore so it’s worth it.

Slow and steady wins the race, makes sense.

Guess my old 'time saving' method was just a great way to waste metal instead. Who knew not rushing could actually be faster?
