A client's 'simple' oak table refinish turned into a 3-day nightmare stripping old poly

They brought in a table from their grandma's house, and the original finish was this thick, yellowed polyurethane that had been painted over with something weird. I spent 72 hours just on the stripping phase, using a heat gun and a whole quart of Citristrip, and my hands are still sore. Has anyone else had a job where the prep work completely blew up the timeline like that?

Try a card scraper after the chemical stripper next time.

That old poly can fuse into the wood grain.

Ugh, that's like old paint on everything.
